Non-fiction Selection for June

I hesitate to do this since this is an "Oprah Book Selection," but, as usual, I'm cheating a bit. This book is one I'm already reading. Our non-fiction selection for the month of June is Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth.

I really liked a lot of what was in this book. At times I felt like I was reading what I already knew intuitively, and the author was just stating it in simple language. Other times, the book made my brain go a little mushy. I'm afraid I can't give a comprehensive summary because it ended on a mushy note for me, and now I can hardly remember what was in the book... If someone else comments, maybe some thoughts will come drifting back.

This is what I liked about this book: Every time I'd say, "Whew, glad that chapter on the ego is finished," I'd come up against another aspect of the ego in the next chapter. Tolle came at me from all sides, which was good. Then I couldn't go and hide back into one of my ego personalities, especially "The Pain Body." I ended up both reading it and listening to it in the car while driving, so that it kept me in the now longer. NOW each time I drift away, I try and bring myself back to the present moment, breathe and go on.

Yes, I like that about the present moment. Unfortunately, it wasn't long after finishing the book that I forgot about the present moment and ended up somewhere in the past or future or wherever those of us go who get distracted by something other than the present. Or maybe I get distracted by something in the present and forget that I'm there...who knows?

Thanks for the comments here. I must confess I haven't finished it yet. The repetition (which I will concede is sometimes necessary) started to feel a little like an attempt at brainwashing after a bit. I will finish it, though, and then I'll be able to make a fairer and, hopefully, keener assessment.
